July 28, 1919 - March 2, 2006

Tamshell and DockOar Charters are sad to announce that Fred Abner passed away on March 2, 2006.
Captain Fred will be greatly missed by family, friends, and anyone who had the pleasure of ever meeting him.
Captain Fred started charter fishing on the Bay in 1938. He had unsurpassed knowledge of the Bay and was one of the oldest active charter boat captains in the United States at the time of his passing.
Captain Fred was a founding member of the Maryland Charter Boat Association. He was not only a charter boat captain, but was also a lifetime oysterman, crabber and diver of the Chesapeake Bay. The only time that Captain Fred was interrupted from working on the Bay was in 1942 when the Army Transportation Corps called for his expertise to run a tugboat with supplies off the coast of Australia during WWII.
Poppa...we miss you!
